SUMMARY:Connecting Europe Days 2024
DESCRIPTION:Organised on 2-5 April in Brussels by the European Commission\, the European Climate\, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency\, and the Belgian Presidency of the EU\, the Connecting Europe Days will gather politicians\, financial institutions\, industry representatives\, transport stakeholders\, and the European Commission to discuss and exchange ideas on achieving a fully decarbonised\, resilient\, seamless\, and digital transport network across Europe. The event will evaluate progress towards the ambitious targets outlined in the EU Green Deal and the Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy. \nA key focus will be on the updated trans-European transport network (TEN-T) Regulation\, which introduces nine new European Transport Corridors and a restructured governance system overseen by eleven European TEN-T Coordinators. Discussions will also explore future funding mechanisms for infrastructure projects and enhancing infrastructure climate resilience. \nConsidering challenges to transport connectivity\, the conference will explore vulnerabilities in the EU Single Market. Sessions will examine the EU transport network’s role in maintaining connectivity with neighbouring countries and its ability to withstand external threats while ensuring preparedness and resilience. \nTwo ERTICO projects\, PoDIUM and ENVELOPE will be showcased at the event. Discover more about these projects at booth 38 in the exhibition area. Christian Kleine\, President of the TN-ITS platform\, joins a panel discussion on “Data-Driven Mobility and Transport Policy: The Role of Artificial Intelligence (AI).” The session will delve into key areas like AI\, data sharing\, interoperability\, and data quality control. The DFRS platform marks a significant milestone at the event with the signing of a Collaboration Agreement with TISA.

SUMMARY:Workshop | Monitoring Systems for Resilient and Sustainable Bridges
DESCRIPTION:The SENSKIN project is organising its 1st workshop “Monitoring Systems for Resilient and Sustainable Bridges” on 8 November 2017 in Brussels (BluePoint Brussels\, formerly DIAMANT Centre). SENSKIN is a 42-month Horizon 2020 project implemented by 13 partners from 7 countries. The main objective of the project is to improve Structural Health Monitoring techniques for transport infrastructure through the development of an innovative monitoring and management system for bridges based on an inexpensive\, low power\, wireless\, skin-like sensor. \nThe workshop offers the chance to learn more about the project’s findings and discover the latest innovation in Structural Health Monitoring (SHM). The workshop will analyse the functional and operational requirements of the SENSKIN bridge monitoring system based on the needs of bridge owners and operators as well as the SENSKIN methodology. To facilitate and enhance knowledge exchange between practitioners in the field of SHM\, a number of monitoring systems already being used (e.g. BRIMOS) as well as those currently being developed in research projects (e.g. AEROBI) will be presented. \nFor further information click here. Participation to our workshop is free of charge but your registration prior to the event is required via this link.

SUMMARY:Politico: Decarbonising Europe’s transport sector
DESCRIPTION:The EU took a strong position in the global fight against climate change at the 2015 COP21 summit in Paris by setting an ambitious target of reducing emissions by 40 percent by 2030. Now it must turn this commitment into action. Ensuring transport contributes its fair share to these emissions cuts appears to be a near-insurmountable challenge. \nIn Europe\, transport’s oil dependency makes cars\, trucks\, airplanes and ships the single biggest source of greenhouse gas emissions. Road transport is a particular problem and responsible for 73% of total transport emissions\, because Europe’s 290 million road vehicles are over 90% reliant on oil. \nThere is a wide range of low-emission transport alternatives that can alleviate oil dependence and slash emissions in road transport: everything from batteries and ethanol to more efficient engines and smarter transport systems. But how soon can these solutions be scaled up to achieve significant emissions reductions? \nThe transition to low-emission transport can only be achieved through cooperation among carmakers\, consumers\, energy companies and technology providers\, as well as national and EU regulators. Binding targets to reduce the carbon intensity of road transport fuels and promote the use of renewable energy by 2030 have been set. However\, the recent European Commission’s “Clean Energy Package for All” proposes a phase out of conventional biofuels — the biggest source of renewable energy currently in transport. Is the 2030 objective now unrealistic? What solutions will national governments devise to meet emission cuts? \nThis event will gather high-level EU and national policymakers\, industry representatives\, energy experts and environment groups for a frank conversation on how to rev up transport emissions reductions efforts\, without wrecking European mobility and competitiveness. \nQuestions to be addressed at the event include: \n\nWhat transport technologies will help Europe speed up emissions reductions?\nWhat are the benefits and drawbacks of these technologies?\nShould national governments or the private sector take the lead in the transition to low emission transport solutions?\nCan policy makers assure the contributions of low emission transport energy such as electricity and ethanol are maximised?\n\nFor the full agenda\, please click here. \nTo register\, please click here. \n  \nSource: Politico Europe \n

SUMMARY:SocialCar Conference
DESCRIPTION:New consumer behaviour – new business opportunities. SocialCar in the sharing economy \nThe sharing economy has rapidly gained in importance over the last few years\, affecting traditional market sectors including mobility and logistics\, retail and consumer merchandise\, tourism and leisure. \nCollaborative consumption\, rethinking the value of ownership\, consumers becoming service providers are factors which herald in a paradigm shift in global consumer behaviour. \nRecent business pairings such as KLM and Airbnb\, Toyota and Uber\, Volswagen and Gett\, GM and Lyft reveal the readiness of big corporations to embrace the change. \nBut is the European small business ready yet? Europe is still missing an adequate regulatory framework\, and the small business sector keeps a safety distance. \nSocialCar\, a European research project funded by Horizon 2020\, pursues the mission to kick-start business models in the passengers’ mobility sector capitalising on the sharing economy. The project develops a user-oriented platform for planning\, booking and integrated payment combining carpooling and other on-demand services with regular collective transport\, in an effort to mainstream the concept of a public-private co-modal urban transport. Business analysts devise concepts for viable and bankable service models which can ripple out across Europe. \nCan this become a role model for other sectors as well? \nSocialCar is about sharing and collaborative development. Software engineers\, business analysts\, transport experts\, carpooling providers and public authorities from Italy\, Greece\, United Kingdom\, Luxembourg\, Poland\, Switzerland\, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia\, Croatia\, Slovenia\, the Netherlands\, Hungary\, Spain and Belgium are collaboratively inventing a unique solution made in Europe. \nThe SocialCar community is growing\, and now it’s time for you to have a say. We look forward to meeting you in Brussels! \nRegister here for the event! \nFurther information will follow soon. \n
